The father of young music star Usher is facing charges of assaulting
Chattanooga Police.
Usher Raymond III is due in General Sessions Court on Friday morning on
charges of assault on police, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.
His son, who was born in Chattanooga, then moved to Atlanta before making
it big in the music world, goes by the name of Usher. He is now 25.
Police said they went to 2610 E. 14th St. and found a female in the front
yard who said there was a man inside who was injured and spitting blood.
Officers said the front door was open, so they went inside. They called
out, but got no response. They said a man then ran into the bedroom and
closed the door.
They said the man refused to come out, and when they tried to open the
door, he held it shut.
Officers said they finally got inside, and Raymond dropped into a corner
and began kicking at them.
They said he began to yell at people who were outside to come in the
house, and some began doing so, "causing an unsafe environment for
police and others."
Officer Pendergrass said he tried to stand Raymond up, but he refused and
kicked him in the groin twice.
He said Raymond tried to run to the front door, and officers had to
wrestle him to the ground again. They said he ran into a rail on the porch
and pushed himself over. Officers said they had to wrestle him all the way
to the patrol car.
Police said Raymond had some active arrest warrants pending.
